Pokémon City League 2027 Season 2: Entry Closes Nov 9 (Overseas Guide)
The Rundown
- The pre-lottery closes Monday, November 9, 2026 at 12:00 JST and the entry fee is ¥500. Results are scheduled for November 19, and a first-come round for vacated and new events opens November 25 at 18:00 JST.
- Season 2 runs December 5, 2026 to January 17, 2027. On November 5 the Trainers Website listed 696 Season 2 events, including 111 in Tokyo, 64 in Osaka and 64 in Kanagawa, with none dated December 31 to January 3.
- Entry is online only, through the Trainers Website and a Players Club account. No venue takes same-day entries. You can apply for as many dates as you like, but you win one, and you can play only one Season 2 event in total.
- There is no participation prize. The winner gets priority entry to the Pokémon Japan Championships 2027, and top finishers earn Championship Points scaled by attendance, with 100 CSP at the top of the table.
- Two rules cost visitors their seat or their standing: deck registration in the Players Club by 08:30 on the day (a penalty applies if staff cannot confirm it), and no-shows without a cancellation may be barred from future events.

City League is the shop-level tournament that runs every weekend at Japanese Pokémon Card Gyms, and Season 2 lands across the Christmas and New Year travel window. City League 2027 Season 2 runs December 5, 2026 to January 17, 2027. The pre-lottery closes Monday, November 9 at 12:00 JST, entry costs ¥500, and you need a Players Club account to apply at all. That gives you four days from today, and nothing about the event can be sorted out at the shop door.
The official notice went up on October 30. Below is what it says, what the live event search showed when we checked it on November 5, and the two rules that trip up visitors.
Can overseas players enter Pokémon City League 2027 Season 2?
Nothing in the Season 2 notice limits entry by nationality or residency, and it names no ID or My Number check. The gate is practical: you must apply online through the Trainers Website with a Players Club account before November 9 at 12:00 JST, because no venue accepts same-day entries.
Here is the full timeline. All times are JST.

The notice puts it flatly: 「会場での当日参加受付は、一律実施いたしません」, no same-day entry at any venue. The season dates come from the official key visual on the same page.
The account layer is the part we have looked at most closely. In our Japan tournament entry requirements guide for Season 1, the Players Club site blocked automated access. This time the first signup screen loaded. It asks for only two things, an email address and a date of birth, and it warns that the date of birth can’t be changed after registration. It also recommends Gmail or Yahoo addresses because carrier and iCloud mail may not receive the invite. We could not see the screens after the email link, so whether they accept an overseas address or phone number is still unverified.
My Number is the other question people ask. The Season 2 notice doesn’t mention it. We covered where that check does apply in Japan’s Pokémon card ID rules for tourists.
Where and when Season 2 runs
The season covers six weekends plus the January 11 public holiday. When we ran the Trainers Website search for Season 2 City League on November 5, 2026, it returned 696 events, all open for the lottery. That includes 550 Open League, 76 Senior League and 70 Junior League listings.
| Area | Season 2 listings (Nov 5) |
|---|---|
| Tokyo | 111 |
| Osaka | 64 |
| Kanagawa | 64 |
| Aichi | 57 |
| Chiba | 43 |
| Saitama | 41 |
| Fukuoka | 27 |
| Hokkaido | 21 |
| Kyoto | 19 |
For a holiday trip, three patterns in the listings matter.
- Weekends carry the season. The heaviest days are January 10 (69 listings), December 13 (64) and January 17 (51). Most weekdays have two to five events nationwide.
- New Year is empty. No listing fell on December 31 through January 3. The last December events are on December 30, and play resumes January 4.
- Seats vary by shop. 550 listings cap at 64 players, and the rest at 32, 24 or 16. Smaller caps mean fewer seats, and the Swiss round count shrinks with the field.
Stores can still add events, which is what the November 25 first-come round is for. The listing count will move, so check the search, not this table, before you apply.
How entry works, step by step
Applying for many dates is the right move for a traveler, and the rules expect it. The notice allows entries to 「上限なく複数の日程」, unlimited dates, while capping wins at one. Spread your applications over every day you’ll be near a Gym, weekday events included.
Format, and what you actually win
The tournament is 60-card Standard with 6 Prizes under the competitive floor rules. Swiss rounds scale with the field on the day:
| Players on the day | Swiss rounds |
|---|---|
| 45–64 | 6 |
| 25–44 | 5 |
| 17–24 | 4 |
| 9–16 | 3 |
| 8 or fewer | No Swiss, top cut only |
The top 8 advance to a single-elimination cut, and every match in both stages is 25 minutes. The linked regulation page fills in the details. An unfinished or drawn Swiss match counts as a loss for both players, a win is worth 3 points, and the store breaks ties with its own calculation. Phones and smartwatches can’t be used during a match.
Now the prize list, which is short. There is no participation prize. The notice lists two rewards:
- Winner: priority entry to the Pokémon Japan Championships 2027.
- Top finishers: Championship Points (CSP) based on attendance and placement.
The CSP page prints three columns side by side. The deeper the field, the further down the standings the points reach.
| CSP earned | Placing | Players in that league |
|---|---|---|
| 100 | 1st | 1–3 |
| 75 | 2nd | 4–8 |
| 50 | 3rd–4th | 9–16 |
| 25 | 5th–8th | 17–32 |
| 15 | 9th–16th | 33–64 |
CSP is counted as of the end of August 2027. A total of 30 to 79 gets one promo card and 80 or more gets two, with the cards still to be announced. Deck shields go to the top 250 in each of the Junior and Senior rankings and the top 500 in Master. Our Championship Series 2027 guide covers how CSP feeds the rest of the season.
What does that mean for a visitor? Read at face value, any line worth 50 CSP or more clears the 30-point promo threshold in a single event. The JCS priority entry is different: it only helps if you can come back to Japan for the Japan Championships themselves.
🗼 What we can do about this
A City League seat is useless without a Standard-legal 60-card deck and spare sleeves, and the store loans nothing. If you're flying in with a list you want to play in Japanese printings, or you need sleeves that are allowed at City League, send us the list. Our job is finding the best way to buy it from Japan and telling you: we check the live Japanese listings (Mercari, Yahoo! Auctions, shop stock) and send back a free report with the listings we would pick, the yen price, condition notes, and an all-in estimate including proxy fees and shipping to your country. You buy directly from the links. The entry itself, the Players Club account and deck registration are tied to your own name, and no one else can file those for you.

The rules that catch visitors on the day
Most of the day-of rules are about what you bring. The notice says plainly that 「会場での貸し出しはございません」, nothing is loaned at the venue.
✅ What the Season 2 notice says to bring
- Your deck (60 cards, Standard), already registered in the Players Club by 08:30
- Damage counters, poison and burn markers, and anything else you need to play
- Something to write with
- Spare deck sleeves
- ¥500 for the fee, in cash if the listing says cash only
Sleeves have their own rule. The notice warns that some deck shields can’t be used and links to a notice about the Alolan Vulpix deck shield (デッキシールド ロコン(アローラのすがた)), released September 2, 2022. Some lots came out in a noticeably different color, so that sleeve is banned at City League and at the other official series events. If yours came out of an old collection, leave it at home.
Card language isn’t stated. The Season 2 notice says nothing about Japanese-only cards. It applies the floor rules and the regulation page, which says signed cards are in principle not allowed. If you plan to play English prints, ask the store before the event day.
Conduct is enforced. Stores and judges can refuse or disqualify players who don’t follow instructions. Running multiple accounts can mean account suspension, voided CSP and loss of eligibility for future Pokémon Card Game events.
⚠️ A no-show can cost you future events
Travel plans change, and the notice is strict about it. If you can't attend, cancel in Players Club My Page by 18:59 the day before. The notice warns that skipping an event without cancelling may bar you from future tournaments. You only get one Season 2 seat, so if a flight change moves you away from the shop you won, cancel on time rather than simply not turning up.
What to do before Monday noon
The window closes November 9 at 12:00 JST. Set up the Players Club account first, because it’s the one step that could still fail for an overseas user. Then apply for every Season 2 date and store your trip touches, and wait for the November 19 results before planning a day around one shop. If the draw goes against you, the first-come round on November 25 at 18:00 JST is your second chance.
Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to play City League 2027 Season 2?
The entry fee is ¥500, per the official October 30 notice. Of the 696 listings on the Trainers Website on November 5, 2026, 30 noted the ¥500 was cash only, so carry coins or a ¥1,000 note. Your real costs are getting to the shop and bringing a complete Standard deck with spare sleeves, because nothing is loaned at the venue.
Can a tourist enter Pokémon City League in Japan?
The Season 2 notice sets no nationality or residency rule and names no ID or My Number check. What it requires is entry through the Trainers Website, which runs on a Players Club account. The first signup screen asks only for an email address and a date of birth; we could not see the later steps, so create the account before the November 9 deadline and treat that as the real test.
Can I play City League at two different shops during my trip?
No. The notice limits each person to one Season 2 date (おひとり様いずれか1日程のみ). You can apply for unlimited dates in the pre-lottery, but you will be drawn for one at most. Multiple accounts are treated as a violation and can lead to account suspension, voided Championship Points and loss of eligibility.
Can I use English cards at City League 2027 Season 2?
The Season 2 notice does not state a card-language rule either way. It applies the competitive floor rules and the linked regulation page, which says signed cards are in principle not allowed. If you plan to play English prints, ask the host store before the event rather than at the table.
