MEGA Gallade ex SAR Promo: The Only Two Ways to Get It

A new Special Art Rare promo just got announced in Japan, it is genuinely striking, and the natural next question from overseas is where to preorder one. There is no preorder, because there is no product — MEGA Gallade ex (メガエルレイドex) is a prize card with exactly two distribution routes, both of which require a Japanese address on a Players Club account plus My Number Card identity verification before the card is mailed out from December 2026. Both notices went up on the official Pokémon Card Game site on June 26, 2026. Here is exactly how each route works, and what that leaves for a collector outside Japan.

How do I get the MEGA Gallade ex SAR promo card?

Two ways, and only two: win it at a Sealed Battle tournament held in Japanese Pokémon Card Gym shops, or win one of 2,000 copies in the lottery attached to the at-home Sealed Battle campaign. Both are tied to the release of the Storm Emeralda expansion, both run from July 31 to October 31, 2026, and both end at the same place — a Japanese mailbox, after an identity check.

The bottom row is the whole story, and it is identical on both notices. Nothing is handed over at the venue.

Route 1: the in-store Sealed Battle at Pokémon Card Gyms

Sealed Battle (シールド戦) is the format where you open a fixed number of sealed packs on the spot and build a deck from only those cards, so nobody needs to bring a collection. Here it is 15 packs of Storm Emeralda, the expansion this whole campaign celebrates.

Two rules on that first step deserve underlining. The notice says flatly that same-day registration at the venue will not be offered anywhere — 「会場での当日参加受付は、一律実施いたしません。」 — so there is no walking into a shop and buying your way in. And entering under multiple Player IDs as the same person in one block is grounds for disqualification, which forfeits every prize including the participation ones.

Your deck may only contain three things: the cards from the 15 packs you open, Basic Energy in the seven listed types (Grass, Fire, Water, Lightning, Psychic, Fighting and Darkness), and the two participation promos everyone receives on the day.

「ガイ」 (Guy, 136/M-P) is a Supporter that draws 3 cards. 「ポケパッド」 (Poké Pad, 135/M-P) is an Item that looks at your deck, reveals a Pokémon that does not have a rule box, puts it in your hand and shuffles. Both are legal in your event deck, and both come with a paper deck case as the participation prize set. Unlike the MEGA Gallade ex, these are handed out on the day.

Route 2: the at-home campaign, 2,000 copies by lottery

The second notice is the softer route. Play a Sealed Battle at home with family or friends using Storm Emeralda packs, then submit a report through an application form that opens at 14:00 on Friday, July 31, 2026 and stays live through October 31. From everyone who applies and meets the conditions, 2,000 people are drawn to receive one SAR MEGA Gallade ex promo each.

To apply you need a Players Club Player ID, an email address, the deck code of the deck you built for the match, and your impressions of the game. The Pokémon Company says the full conditions, the application flow and the instructions for generating a deck code will be published later.

Why both routes close for non-residents

Strip away the format differences and the two notices converge on the same three requirements:

1. A Pokémon Card Game Players Club account.
2. A Japanese mailing address registered on that account, because that is the only address the prize is sent to.
3. My Number Card identity verification completed in the Players Club by a stated deadline, without which the card is not released to you.

The third one is the wall. The My Number Card is Japan’s national ID card, issued to people who hold a resident record in Japan — Japanese nationals and mid- to long-term foreign residents. There is no tourist version and no application route from abroad. And because the check verifies a person rather than an address, a forwarder or a proxy cannot complete it for somebody else: a Japanese address is purchasable, a Japanese resident record is not. The in-store route stacks a second lock on top: you have to be standing in a Japanese shop on the day, having already won a lottery whose first-block entry window closes at noon on July 6.

The December 2026 problem nobody is spelling out

Read the delivery clause literally and a commercially important fact falls out. The 3-0 prize copies, the janken tournament copies, and all 2,000 at-home lottery copies are mailed from December 2026 onward. Not one of them exists in a player’s hands before that. A card handed out at an event on August 8 would hit Mercari on August 9; this one cannot.

There, players walked out of the shop holding packs. Here, a four-month gap sits between winning and holding, and the entire secondary market for this card sits on the far side of it.

What is confirmed, and what is not

Being precise about the gaps is half the value of reading this before someone sells you something.

So the honest summary for a collector abroad: there is no route into the distribution itself, and no amount of paying someone changes that. The route that will exist is the ordinary Japanese secondary market from December 2026, once winners decide what to do with their copies — Mercari and Yahoo! Auctions are where Japanese players list prize cards first, and both are domestic-only, so you need someone inside Japan to check out. Between now and then, the correct amount of money to spend on this card is zero.
