Champions League 2027 Chiba: Entry Closes Oct 16 for Overseas Players

Published Oct 10, 2026 8 min read

The Rundown

  • Entry is open now and closes October 16 (Fri) at 17:00 JST. Lottery results post October 23 (Fri) at 14:00 JST. The event runs November 22–23, 2026 at Makuhari Messe Exhibition Halls 4–6, and the entry fee is free.
  • Seats: Master League 8,000, with all preliminaries on November 22 and the finals on November 23. Senior and Junior get 1,000 seats per day each, and each day is a self-contained tournament.
  • Nothing in the published rules bars a non-resident. A passport is item 1 on the photo-ID list. The real gates are Japanese-language cards only, Japanese communication by the player, and for Master League your own smartphone, LINE account and the Sekanavi app.
  • If you were drawn for Yokohama on September 21, the day the typhoon cancelled, that win is now recorded as 未当選 (not selected), which puts you in Chiba's weighted lottery.
  • Prizes match Yokohama's list: promo Riolu and basic Energy for taking part, plus promo Mega Zeraora ex, promo Mega Signal, a deck shield and a Pokémon HOME medal as win prizes. Spectating is free with no lottery.

The Pokémon Card Game official site posted Champions League 2027 Chiba on October 9, and the entry window opened the same afternoon. It closes in a week. If you’re outside Japan and wondering whether this is a tournament you could fly in for, the published rules contain no residency or nationality test, entry is free, and a passport clears the ID check. What decides it is a Japanese-language deck, your own Japanese at the table, and a Players Club account set up before October 16 at 17:00 JST.

Can you enter Champions League 2027 Chiba from overseas?

On the published rules, yes: nothing restricts entry to residents, and the first accepted ID is a passport. But you apply by lottery before October 16 at 17:00 JST, and the organizer can disqualify a player whose Japanese is not enough to keep a match running.

Here is the clock, all times JST:

Doors run 7:30 to 21:00 on both days, with entrance reception expected to close around 18:00. The announcement is blunt about walk-ups: 「大会は事前申込制です。当日参加はございません。」, advance application only, no same-day participation.

Everything starts from a Pokémon Card Game Players Club account and its Player ID. Whether someone living abroad can complete that registration is the one step we have not been able to confirm, and we laid out exactly what we could and could not check in our Yokohama entry guide. Treat it as the first thing to test, today, not the week of the deadline.

Seats, leagues and the Chiba format

Chiba is a two-day event, and it packs the whole Master League preliminary into one day.

LeagueBornSeatsDaysPhoto-ID check
MasterOn or before April 1, 20098,000Prelims Nov 22, finals Nov 23Yes

Master League prelims are real-time Swiss: up to 9 rounds of 35 minutes, single game, and players with 7 or more wins advance to day 2. You’re assigned a group (A through F) with its own entry time and a last-matching cutoff between 14:30 and 20:30, and the outline says you can’t choose your group. Day 2 runs another Swiss stage of up to 7 rounds, carrying over only your win-loss record, then the top 32 play a single-elimination bracket. Junior and Senior play up to 8 Swiss rounds, and the top 32 of each league go to a same-day bracket. Under-18 players need a guardian’s consent to register and enter.

How the lottery weighs your entry

If more people apply than there are seats, it’s a draw, and the draw is not flat. The outline says that entrants who have lost more lotteries since their last win, counting Champions League events and the Japan Championships 2026 card game division held from December 2025 through September 2026, get a higher chance of being drawn. Odds are not published, and we won’t guess at them.

Two consequences for a reader abroad. First, a first-time applicant has no losing streak on record, so the weighting does nothing for you. Second, if you were drawn for Yokohama on September 21, the day Typhoon No. 25 cancelled, the outline says that day’s result is now recorded as 「未当選(落選)」, not selected, and that this makes you eligible for Chiba’s lottery-chance system.

Some players skip the draw. Priority entry goes to four groups:

✅ Who gets priority entry at Chiba

  • Yokohama: Master players with 10 or more combined wins across prelims and the first final stage; Junior and Senior players who finished prelims with 2 losses or fewer; and any priority-right holder who had been drawn for September 21.
  • Champions League 2026 events: top 4 finishers in each league.
  • Japan Championships 2026: top 4 finishers in each league.
  • Early-May 2026 CSP ranking: Master top 40, Junior and Senior top 30.

The two rules that actually decide it

The first is the deck. The outline says it twice, in the card rules and in the what-to-bring list: 「日本語のカードのみ使用可能」, Japanese-language cards only. Standard regulation, 60 cards, 6 Prize cards, signed cards ruled out in principle. An English collection, however complete, is not a legal deck on the floor at Makuhari.

The second is language. Buried in the notes:

💡 The language clause, verbatim

「大会では、本人による日本語でのコミュニケーションを基本とします。言語の問題により大会進行に支障をきたす場合、主催者判断により失格となる場合があります。」

Our translation: "At the tournament, communication in Japanese by the player themselves is the baseline. If language problems impede the running of the tournament, disqualification may result at the organizer's discretion."

“By the player themselves” means a friend interpreting at the table doesn’t satisfy it. There’s no published proficiency level, so the honest test is whether you can run a 35-minute match, answer a judge, and report a result in Japanese without slowing anyone down.

The Japanese-only card rule is the part money fixes. If you have the language and the account but your list is in English, you are rebuilding it card for card from Japanese stock, and a 60-card Standard deck is a lot of separate listings to price and ship in five weeks.

🗼 What we can do about this

Chiba only accepts Japanese-language cards, so the deck you would actually play has to come out of Japanese inventory. Send us the list you plan to run. Our job is finding the best way to buy it from Japan and telling you: we check the live Japanese listings (Mercari, Yahoo! Auctions, shop stock) and send back a free report with the listings we would pick card by card, the yen price, condition notes, and an all-in estimate including proxy fees and shipping to your country. You buy directly from the links. We can't enter the lottery or play on your behalf; the entry, the account and the seat are yours alone.

What to carry, and the ID check

The ID check covers Master and Senior players and is done on players staff approach during the event, not on everyone. If you’re asked and can’t be verified, you’re disqualified from that tournament and any prizes already handed over are taken back. Playing on someone else’s account gets both the lender and the borrower suspended.

Accepted documents, originals only and in date, in the official order: 1. passport, 2. driver’s license, 3. Special Permanent Resident Certificate or Residence Card, 4. disability certificate, 5. credit card with photo, 6. My Number Card with photo (the notification card is not accepted), 7. student ID with photo, currently enrolled. For a visitor, item 1 settles it.

The rest of the bag: your deck, a Pokémon coin, damage counters, markers, spare sleeves, and for Master League your smartphone. Tablets, iPads included, are not accepted, and the rule is one person, one phone, one LINE account. Bag inspection happens at the door and on every re-entry.

⚠️ Don't book November 22–23 before October 23 at 14:00

Entry is free, so applying risks nothing. The trip is where the money goes, and November 22–23 is a Sunday followed by a national holiday, with 8,000 Master seats plus Junior and Senior players and their guardians heading to the same halls. The result doesn't post until October 23 at 14:00 JST. Book before that and you're paying holiday-weekend rates for a seat you may not get. If you go anyway, spectating needs no lottery.

No Championship Points, and what the promos mean if you can’t go

The prize page opens with one line worth reading literally: 「チャンピオンシップポイントの付与はございません。」, “There is no awarding of Championship Points.” That tells you Chiba doesn’t hand out CP. It doesn’t tell you anything about Worlds invitations, which Japan’s official site has announced separately; our piece on the Master League berth change covers that, and the season map shows where Chiba sits among the five events.

The prizes themselves, per the official page (which labels its pictures as illustrative):

PrizeWhat it is
ParticipationPromo Riolu (リオル) and promo basic Energy
Win prize 1Promo Mega Zeraora ex (メガゼラオラex)
Win prize 2Promo Mega Signal (メガシグナル)
Win prize 3Original deck shield
Win prize 4Pokémon HOME commemorative medal

That’s the same list Yokohama’s prize page published. The page doesn’t say how many wins each prize takes, and we won’t fill that in.

For collectors who won’t be at Makuhari, the practical point is simple: event promos like these reach the Japanese secondary market (Mercari, Yahoo! Auctions, shop cases) after the event, because thousands of players walk out with them. We’re not going to forecast what they’ll cost. What we’d suggest is waiting until after November 23, when listings exist to compare, and checking that a listing is the Champions League promo rather than a set printing of the same Pokémon.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to play or watch Champions League 2027 Chiba?

Nothing. The official announcement lists 参加費用 (participation cost) as 無料, free. General spectating is also open to anyone with no advance lottery. Your actual costs are travel, a room over a Sunday plus a national holiday, and a Standard-legal deck built from Japanese-language cards.

Can I play my English Pokémon cards at Champions League 2027 Chiba?

No. The outline says only Japanese-language cards may be used, in both the card rules and the what-to-bring list. The format is Standard regulation, 60-card decks with 6 Prize cards, and signed cards are not allowed in principle. No proxy or translation allowance is described.

Does Champions League 2027 Chiba award Championship Points?

The prize page says 「チャンピオンシップポイントの付与はございません。」, which translates as "There is no awarding of Championship Points." That line covers Championship Points only. It says nothing about Worlds invitations, which the official site handles in separate notices, so check those before planning around a berth.

I was drawn for Yokohama on September 21 and it was cancelled. Do I get a seat at Chiba?

Not automatically, unless you held a priority entry right. The outline says the September 21 result is recorded system-side as 未当選 (not selected), which makes you eligible for Chiba's lottery-chance weighting. Players who held a Yokohama priority right and were drawn for September 21 are listed among Chiba's priority-entry holders. Everyone else still has to apply by October 16 at 17:00 JST.

Can I just turn up on the day and play?

No. The announcement states the event is advance-application only with no same-day participation. What you can do without a lottery is spectate, on either day, at no charge. Bag inspection runs at the entrance and again on every re-entry.
