Pokémon Players Club Identity Verification Error: What to Do

Published Aug 13, 2026 Updated Sep 9, 2026 9 min read

The Rundown

  • Eleven documented causes: five you can fix on your phone in minutes, two that need a municipal counter in Japan, three that can never be fixed, and one launch-day outage that was never your fault.
  • The most common fixable cause is the browser — verification completed in a non-default browser, or in private mode, errors out.
  • Three wrong PIN entries in a row locks the card, and only a Japanese municipal office counter can unlock it.
  • The app changed on August 25, 2026: the Digital Authentication App became the Digital Agency's Maina App. Every new attempt uses the new app.
  • Both 30th CELEBRATION lottery rounds are over — payment closed September 8 at 16:59 JST. The one dated verification deadline still open is November 30, 2026, for the Mega Gallade ex SAR promo mailing.

You tapped your My Number Card against the phone, the screen jumped, and you landed on players.pokemon-card.com/mypage/identity_verification/error. You pasted that URL into Google and got nothing, because the page is behind a login. The Pokémon Card Game’s own notices document eleven causes for this screen — five you can fix in five minutes, two that need a counter at a Japanese city office, three that can never be fixed, and one launch-day outage that was never your fault. Which bucket you are in decides everything.

Why does players.pokemon-card.com show an identity verification error?

Because the chain has eleven documented failure points, and the common ones are browser or NFC problems rather than anything wrong with your card. The August 3, 2026 notice — updated August 21, and now written around the Maina App instead of the retired Digital Authentication App — carries the FAQ that names them.

Two entries surprise everyone: the browser one, because nothing on screen suggests the browser matters, and the PIN one, because three strikes is a lower ceiling than people assume.

Why can’t you open players.pokemon-card.com/mypage/identity_verification?

Because it sits under /mypage/, the logged-in area of the Players Club — with no session it redirects to the login screen, so there is nothing there for Google, for an AI assistant, or for you in a fresh tab. Re-checked September 9, 2026: a logged-out visit still bounced straight to the login page, no error text, no reason code. The Players Club also refuses automated fetching, so everything here was read in a real browser.

So we cannot tell you whether the error screen prints a reason code — if it shows a string beyond a generic failure, run that against the table; if it shows nothing, work the list top-down. And a chat app’s preview pane or a QR scanner’s in-app browser is not your default browser either, which is the most common cause on the whole list.

How do you fix a Players Club verification error?

In this order, because the expensive mistake — burning PIN attempts — is the one people reach for first. Everything above it is free.

1
Confirm you aren't already verifiedIf My Page reads 本人認証済み under your account name, verification went through and the error screen was noise.
2
Restart in your default browser, private mode offClose incognito windows, and set the system default browser to Chrome on Android or Safari/Chrome on iPhone so the app hands you back correctly.
3
Fix the read itselfNFC on, case off, card flat against the reader — near the camera on iPhone, varies on Android — held still for five to ten seconds.
4
Only now touch the PINTwo 4-digit PINs are used, for the user certificate and card-face input assistance; the notice says both are usually the same number. Three misses locks the card.

If step 4 fails on a PIN you are sure about, stop: a locked card is unlocked at a municipal office counter in Japan, not by a support ticket.

💡 You are looking for the wrong app icon

The Digital Agency folded the Digital Authentication App (デジタル認証アプリ) into its Maina App (マイナアプリ), and the Players Club switched over on August 25, 2026. Every new attempt — including your retry — runs through the Maina App, so walkthroughs and screenshots written in July or August point at an app that no longer does this job.

The three errors no retry can fix

Three of the eleven causes are not bugs. The first: you already verified another account with this card. The notice’s answer to “what if I verified with the wrong card” is one sentence long — it cannot be changed. One card, one account, permanently.

The second: it is not your card. The notice refuses family and acquaintance cards outright and calls using another person’s card unauthorized use, grounds for account suspension. Pokémon Center Online separately reserves the right to cancel orders where a terms violation or duplicate ordering is found.

The third: you have no card to use — the next section, because it is the one most readers of this page are in.

⚠️ "Just borrow a card" is how people lose two things at once

One My Number Card verifies exactly one Players Club account, and verification cannot be moved to a different account afterward. So a relative who verifies your account has not lent you anything — they have permanently spent their own card and can never verify their own. The same notice classes using another person's card as unauthorized use, subject to account suspension. There is no undo path.

Can you complete Players Club verification if you don’t live in Japan?

Only if you are a Japanese national holding a My Number Card, including one issued under the overseas scheme. For everyone else the answer is no, and the error is the check working rather than a setting you have not found. The card is issued off a Japanese resident record, and the notice is explicit that no other identity document is accepted.

That one door is narrow, and the official card portal draws it precisely: since May 27, 2024 Japanese nationals can keep the card after moving abroad, and those without one can apply from outside Japan only if they moved abroad on or after October 5, 2015. The trap inside it — leave without switching to the overseas version before your stated departure date and the old card was invalidated on that date, so you need a fresh overseas issuance rather than a retry. We found nothing opening the scheme to foreign nationals living outside Japan.

Pokémon Center Online does run an unverified entry frame, needing only phone-number verification. It does not rescue an overseas buyer: delivery is limited to addresses inside Japan, and the order right cannot be transferred. Account-level detail is in what My Number verification means for overseas collectors, store-level in why overseas collectors can’t enter the PCO lottery.

🗼 What we can do about this

Nobody can pass identity verification for you, supply a My Number Card, or enter a Players Club lottery on your behalf — the card comes off a Japanese government resident record, verification binds permanently to one person's account, and Pokémon Center Online says the order right can't be handed to anyone else. What the desk does sits outside that chain entirely: from the September 16 general release, and on the Japanese secondary market after it, we check what is actually listed and send back a free report — the listings we would pick, the yen price, condition notes, and an all-in estimate including proxy fees and shipping to your country. You buy directly from the links; our job is finding the best way to buy it from Japan and telling you. Send a want list and we'll say plainly which items are reachable that way and which are Pokémon Center Online exclusives nobody can reach for you.

Is it still worth verifying now that both 30th CELEBRATION lotteries have closed?

Yes if you are in Japan; no if those draws were your only reason, because they are finished and cannot be reopened. Round one entered August 10–14, round two August 28–31, and the order-and-payment window for round-two winners shut on September 8, 2026 at 16:59 JST. Winners ship November 1–15 for the Premium Deck Set and November 11–20 for the expansion BOX — weeks after the general Japanese release on September 16, 2026, which checks no identity at all.

What is still live, per the August 3 notice as it stands today, is everything else verified status feeds: priority draws at Pokémon Center Online, and entry to some official events inside Japan. Two concrete items:

  • Mega Gallade ex SAR promo (メガエルレイドexSARゲットバトル). The three-win and janken prizes are not handed out at the venue — they are mailed from December 2026 to your Players Club registered address, and receiving one requires verification completed by November 30, 2026 at 10:00 JST. The events run at Pokémon Card Gyms in Japan through October 31. This is the only dated verification deadline currently open.
  • A possible additional FUTURISTIC BOX draw. The August 21 Pokémon Center Online notice says it is considering another round for the ¥27,500 30th CELEBRATION FUTURISTIC BOX, dates still being arranged — a stated intention, not a scheduled draw. Worth fixing this before it opens rather than during it, because verification is weighted, not decorative: on the first FUTURISTIC BOX round, Pokémon Center Online said most winning slots were held for the verified frame.

✅ The standing conditions for a verified-frame draw

  • My Page shows 本人認証済み under your Players Club account name.
  • Your Players Club and Pokémon Center Online registered email addresses match character for character. Case differences are treated as identical; a moved dot is not, and that silently drops you to unverified.
  • Verification and entry can be done in either order — only the state at the entry deadline is checked.
  • Enter through the frame matching your status. Verified people entering the unverified frame, and the reverse, are automatic losers; a wrong-frame entry can only be canceled during the entry window.
  • Don't change your Players Club email or withdraw from the Players Club until entries close.

Otherwise, stop spending evenings on the retry loop. The 30th CELEBRATION expansion ships worldwide on September 16, 2026, and the sealed Japanese SKUs hit ordinary retail and the domestic secondary market that day with no identity check anywhere — we checked eight Japanese channels for that morning in 8 routes checked for September 16. If someone in Japan legitimately wins something, getting a Japanese lottery win shipped overseas covers the forwarding half, and the JP Lottery Tracker quotes the original terms for all seven retailers.

Frequently asked questions

Does the error page tell you why verification failed?

We cannot confirm that it does. Re-checked on September 9, 2026, the URL bounced a logged-out visitor straight to the login page, so we could not read the error screen or verify whether it prints a reason code. What is public is the official cause list in the August 3 Players Club notice, which is what this article works from.

I already verified with the Digital Authentication App. Do I have to redo it in the Maina App?

No. The Players Club notice of August 21, 2026 says accounts already verified need no re-authentication because of the app change, which took effect August 25. It adds that any future re-authentication will run through the Maina App — so the new app matters only if you are verifying for the first time, or retrying after an error.

Can a proxy or shopping service complete Players Club verification for me?

No, and nobody should offer to. Verification binds one My Number Card to exactly one Players Club account permanently, and the official notice states that using another person's card is unauthorized use, subject to account suspension. What a service can legitimately do is buy general-retail Japanese product, which involves no identity check at all.

Does Players Club verification store my My Number?

No. The notice lists what is read and saved — name, address, date of birth, and a user identifier — and states that the My Number itself is neither read nor stored.

Who do I contact if the error keeps happening?

Not Pokémon Center Online. Its own support page states that these questions cannot be answered by the Pokémon Center Online support desk and routes you to the Pokémon Card Game Support Desk instead. Questions about the Maina App itself go to the Digital Agency, and the app cannot start a verification on its own — always begin from the Players Club side.
