Pokémon Players Club My Number Verification: Overseas Impact

On August 3, 2026 the Pokémon Card Game Players Club turned on an identity-verification system built around Japan’s My Number Card (マイナンバーカード), and Pokémon Center Online wired it into the 30th CELEBRATION lottery the same day. If you collect Japanese product from outside Japan, this reads like a wall — and for the priority side of the lottery, it is one. A My Number Card is issued off a Japanese resident record, so the verified entry frame is closed to overseas collectors who aren’t Japanese nationals registered abroad. The useful part is that the cards everyone actually wants are not the Japan-only part of this release.

Can overseas collectors get a My Number–verified Players Club account?

No — not unless you hold a My Number Card, and that card is issued off a Japanese resident record. The one exception is the overseas scheme, which the official card portal limits to Japanese nationals who moved abroad on or after October 5, 2015.

The Players Club announcement is specific about what a verified account is for: priority lottery entry and sales for certain products on Pokémon Center Online, plus entry to some official tournaments held in Japan. Three things are attached to it right now — the 30th anniversary products, the MEGA Gallade ex SAR Get Battle event, and the おうちでシールド戦「ストームエメラルダ」 home sealed-play campaign. For the 30th anniversary lottery specifically, verification has to be completed by August 14 (Friday) at 16:59 JST.

What gets read and stored is name, address, date of birth and a user identifier. The announcement states the My Number itself is neither read nor stored. One phone can be used to verify more than one account, but only where each person has their own card — you log out of both the Players Club and the authentication app between people. That detail exists for families, not for services.

This is the same shape of obstacle we hit when Japanese card shops began gating store entry with face recognition: the check is bound to a body or a government record, and a forwarder can’t stand in for either.

What the verified frame actually buys at Pokémon Center Online

Verification is not a ticket, and Pokémon Center Online never calls it one. The 30th anniversary lottery is split into two entry frames — 「プレイヤーズクラブ：本人認証済み枠」 (verified) and 「プレイヤーズクラブ：本人未認証枠」 (unverified) — and you apply through whichever matches your status. The page does not publish how many units sit behind each frame, so nobody outside the company can tell you what verification is worth in odds. The Players Club side describes verified accounts as being used for priority lottery and sales, and adds flatly that verification does not guarantee a win.

Here is the whole offer, read off the August 3 announcement. All prices include tax, all times are JST, and Pokémon Center Online states there is no shipping charge on any of it.

The first three ship by September 15, the day before release; the Card Set bundle ships by October 15. Two of those numbers are just arithmetic worth noticing: ¥10,800 is the nine individual ¥1,200 card sets sold together, which the announcement says outright, and ¥7,200 is exactly twenty ¥360 packs — though neither official page we read states how many packs are in a box, so treat that as a coincidence of price, not a spec.

One entry per person per lottery. It is not first-come. And the line that closes the door on any workaround: the right to order a won item is valid only for the applicant and cannot be transferred to a third party, with delivery limited to addresses inside Japan. Why the card itself is the wall

This is the structural part, and it isn’t a Pokémon policy at all. Japan’s Digital Agency describes the My Number as a 12-digit number assigned to every resident of Japan who holds a resident record (住民票). No resident record, no number, no card.

There is one narrow door out of that, and it is narrower than people assume. Since May 27, 2024, Japanese nationals can keep using a My Number Card after moving abroad, and Japanese nationals who don’t hold one can apply from overseas — but only if they moved abroad on or after October 5, 2015. The official portal frames the whole scheme in terms of 日本国籍の方 (people of Japanese nationality). We found nothing on that portal opening it to foreign nationals living outside Japan, and we are not going to infer one.

So the chain runs: no Japanese resident record → no My Number Card → no verified Players Club account → no verified frame. Layered on top of Japan-only delivery and a non-transferable order right, the verified lane isn’t a difficulty for overseas buyers. It’s a category they aren’t in.

The good news: the cards are not the Japan-only part

Now the part that should change what you do this week. 30th CELEBRATION is the first Pokémon TCG expansion released simultaneously worldwide — the Japanese product page stamps it 世界同時発売 for September 16, 2026, and The Pokémon Company International has published its own English lineup for the same date. The English lineup as published on Pokémon.com is a genuinely large slate, and none of it requires a Japanese anything:

• September 16 — Elite Trainer Box (nine packs, full-art Nidorina promo), Pokémon Center Elite Trainer Box (eleven packs, two Nidorina promos), Poster Collection (three packs plus Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres promos), Tech Sticker Collection, 2-Pack Blister, Knock Out Collection, and the Pokémon ex Box with Sylveon ex or Greninja ex.
• October 2 — Binder Collection, Booster Bundle, Mini Tins.
• October 30 — Battle Deck: Espeon ex & Umbreon ex.
• November 6 — Ditto Premium Collection, Ultra-Premium Collection Day & Night, Figure Collection Mew & Mewtwo.

So which of the four lottery items genuinely need a Japan route? Read against the English lineup published on August 4, 2026:

One honest gap: absence from an official English showcase is strong evidence, not a formal announcement of Japan exclusivity. The Pokémon Company International could add SKUs later. What we can say is that as of August 4, 2026, no international release of the Premium Deck Set, the FUTURISTIC BOX or the Card Sets has been published.

What to do with the next ten days

Nothing, if you’re outside Japan — and that’s the point. The entry window that opens on August 10 at 12:00 JST is not open to you in any form a forwarder can fix, and chasing it through someone else’s identity is where people get accounts banned and money lost. If you’re in Japan or a Japanese national holding a card, the calendar is tight and unforgiving: verify by August 14 at 16:59, on the account whose email matches your Pokémon Center Online login, and don’t change that email or leave the Players Club until entries close. Pokémon Center Online has also said a follow-up additional lottery is planned, with dates to be announced.

Worth noting for the record: the verification system threw errors for some users on launch day. The Players Club posted a follow-up the same day confirming it was working again and telling anyone who hit an error before 17:00 on August 3 to run verification a second time. If you tried early and assumed it went through, it may not have.

Everyone else: September 16 is the date that matters. The whole reason to import Japanese cards on day one just stopped applying to this set.
