Japanese Proxy Services Compared for Cards: The Fees That Decide It

Every proxy comparison leads with the service fee, and the service fee is the smallest number on your invoice. On one ¥1,200 Mercari single the realistic fee load is about ¥850 through Neokyo, ¥650–2,000 through Buyee, and ¥800 plus a percentage of your deposit through ZenMarket — before a gram of postage. Below is every charge the three publish against a card order, read off their own fee pages in August 2026.

How much are Japan proxy fees?

Budget ¥650–2,000 per single card in proxy charges before postage. Which end of that range you land on is set by how many separate sellers your want list touches, not by the logo.

A dash means the service publishes no charge on that line, not that the work is free. Read the columns as three shapes of bill: ZenMarket and Neokyo charge per item, Buyee per order — and Buyee holds that ¥500 even with several purchases inside one order.

What is Neokyo’s consolidation fee, and what does Neokyo’s handling fee actually cover?

Neokyo publishes no separate consolidation fee. Grouping several orders into one parcel is covered by its parcel preparation charge: ¥500 for anything up to 2kg, then ¥500 plus ¥150 for each additional kilo, rounded up. Cards never leave the first bracket, so treat it as a flat ¥500 per shipment no matter how many cards go in.

The ¥350 is the handling fee, and Neokyo is specific about what it buys: placing the order, domestic shipping to the warehouse, order follow-up, and storage for up to 45 days. Several copies of one item inside a single Buy Request are charged once. Two things it does not buy — Neokyo states it does not inspect or authenticate items, and its question channel to sellers excludes negotiation and authenticity.

So the honest single-card figure is ¥850, not ¥350, and Neokyo’s own ten-item example comes to ¥4,000 — the ¥500 is per parcel, the ¥350 per item. Reopening a packed parcel costs ¥1,000 plus the packing fee again, so decide what is in the box before it is sealed.

ZenMarket vs Buyee vs Neokyo: which one wins for cards?

None of them wins outright; the answer flips on order shape. Buyee is cheapest when several cards come from one seller and you skip the options. Neokyo is cheapest per parcel and the only service whose fees never scale with the card’s price. ZenMarket is dearest on Mercari and the only one selling per-item condition photos.

The ZenMarket versus Buyee question is really a question about sellers. Four cards from one seller costs ¥500 in Buyee purchase fees against ¥3,200 at ZenMarket’s Mercari rate. Spread the same four across four sellers and Buyee becomes ¥2,000 plus four domestic shipping charges, and the gap collapses.

Choosing Neokyo or ZenMarket on one expensive single, the published ¥450 gap understates it: ZenMarket’s Funds Deposit Fee is a percentage, so a ¥150,000 card carries at least ¥1,500 there, while Neokyo’s add-on stays a flat ¥500 box.

What ZenMarket’s price buys is a checkpoint: its ¥500-per-item photo service is the only published way to see a specific card before it is packed and becomes unreturnable. Buyee’s ¥300 service is per package, five shots, no choice of angle — a packing check, not a condition check.

What does proxy shipping from Japan cost?

Proxy shipping is two bills: the domestic leg inside Japan, where proxy structure bites, and international postage at the carrier’s own rate. Neokyo states plainly that it adds no fee on top of shipping cost.

For one card in a toploader, tracked International Air Packet is ¥880 to Europe or ¥1,200 to the US for up to 100g — and Japan Post lists its compensation as not provided — while untracked airmail Small Packet is ¥510 to Europe or ¥830 to the US. EMS has a 500g minimum, so a single card pays ¥3,150 to Europe or ¥3,900 to the US — the wrong tool for one card. A booster box lands in the up-to-1kg tier at ¥4,400 to Europe or ¥5,300 to the US by EMS. Full tables: shipping costs from Japan.

The domestic leg is the proxy-specific part. Buyee bills ¥150–1,500 to move each order from seller to warehouse, and states each order is processed separately even when purchases come from one store. Ten sellers means ten domestic charges before an international parcel exists — consolidating later saves the international leg, not charges already fired.

Do Japan proxy services handle customs?

Only the Japan-side paperwork, plus a few destination taxes collected at checkout. No proxy pays your import duty or VAT, and none of them can make a parcel arrive untaxed.

Buyee charges a ¥2,800 customs clearance commission when a parcel valued over ¥200,000 ships by EMS, Japan Post Air Mail, Economy Air Mail or seamail, and collects GST for Australia, New Zealand and Singapore plus SST for Malaysia. Neokyo notes Australian and US customs may be collected at shipment, and points you to your own authorities for the rest.

After that it is your country’s rules on the declared value. The US $800 de minimis exemption is suspended indefinitely — since June 24, 2026 for couriers and July 24, 2026 for mail — so a small card order is no longer automatically duty-free. The UK charges no duty at or below £135 but import VAT above a £39 gift value; the EU charges VAT from the first euro and duty above €150; Australia 10% GST at or below A$1,000; Canada waives only CAD$20 by courier. Thresholds and sources: import tax and customs on cards. Under-declaring is customs fraud and voids the shipping cover, so price the tax in instead.

Is paying a Japanese proxy service secure?

All three take your money before the card ships, and the protection you actually hold comes from the payment network, not from the proxy.

Buyee lists PayPal, credit card (VISA, Mastercard, JCB and China UnionPay), Alipay, FPX online banking for Malaysia, and Buyee Wallet funded through Wise — the Wallet only above ¥900,000 of item value. Card details are handled over SSL, and Buyee charges the moment you win a bid or place an order, with shipping billed later as a second payment.

Neokyo runs on PayPal: purchases settle in yen and PayPal converts. Its FAQ asks you to contact support before opening a dispute so its own mediation runs first, and claims reach the carrier only within five months of shipment. Convenience-store payment costs ¥1,000.

ZenMarket works from a prepaid balance, which is what the Funds Deposit Fee is for — the fee page describes it as covering gateway costs such as PayPal and Alipay. We could not re-read that page in August 2026, since it returns a bot challenge to automated requests, so we are not listing methods we have not seen stated there. Open it in a browser before funding.

Buyer protection is thinner than the word suggests. Buyee sells it as a plan — Standard ¥500, Insured Delivery ¥500, Inspection ¥300, and Lite at ¥0 with no compensation, which is the version most fee comparisons quote. Neokyo bundles insurance and tracking into the shipment. None of it covers a genuine card whose condition was oversold.

What none of them do for you

No proxy authenticates cards. ZenMarket states detailed inspection is not part of the service fee — its ¥500 photo service exists precisely because inspection does not. Buyee’s Inspection Plan checks the item against the listing, a description check rather than counterfeit detection. Neokyo says outright that it does not inspect or authenticate.

ZenMarket’s cancellation terms have a second gap: cancelling after an item reaches the warehouse costs ¥1,000, needs the seller to accept returns, and is not available at all for JDirectItems Auction, Mercari or Rakuma — the three platforms where Japanese singles trade.
