30th CELEBRATION Card Sets: Nine Starter Trios at ¥1,200 Each

Nine boxes go on sale in Japan on the same October morning, they look almost identical on a shelf, and eight of them are wrong for you. The 30th CELEBRATION Card Sets are nine separate ¥1,200 products, one per generation of starter Pokémon, out in Japan on Friday, October 16, 2026 — and each one contains that generation’s three starters as holo promo cards, so if you want Charmander you need one ¥1,200 box, not the ¥10,800 nine-set bundle. Here is the full list, the arithmetic on what ¥1,200 actually buys, and the one mistake that costs ¥9,600.

What’s in the 30th CELEBRATION card sets, and do I need all nine?

Each ¥1,200 set contains three holo promo cards of one generation’s starter trio, two 30th CELEBRATION expansion packs, and a paper card stand that holds three cards. You need exactly as many sets as the starter trios you care about — there is no card shared between them, and no discount for buying all nine.

The official product page describes the concept in one line: these are the Pokémon that were 「冒険の最初のパートナー」 — your adventure’s first partner — across the nine regions the Pokémon series has been set in. One region, one box.

Two notes on that table. The full product name is ポケモンカードゲーム MEGA「30th CELEBRATION カードセット …」 with the three Pokémon names appended, so the suffix column is the part that distinguishes one box from another. And the region names are ours, not the product’s — the official page counts nine regions but labels the sets only by Pokémon name. Say the Pokémon names, not “the Kanto one,” when you order.

Every set carries the same contents block, and the release date is identical across all nine: 2026年10月16日（金）, Friday, October 16, 2026.

The ¥1,200 arithmetic: what you’re paying for the promos

Subtract the two packs at their official price and ¥480 is left for three promos and a stand. The 30th CELEBRATION expansion pack has a published suggested retail price of ¥360 including tax on the same official site — six holo cards per pack, randomly inserted. That gives us a clean subtraction, and it is the only honest way to price the promos before the product exists.

Read that as arithmetic on official retail prices, not as a valuation. Nobody knows what these cards trade for — they do not exist yet, and we do not publish secondary-market figures for unreleased product. What the subtraction tells you is what the manufacturer is effectively charging: under ¥160 a promo, for cards you cannot pull from a pack.

The promo cards: what the official images actually show

The product page publishes all 27 promo cards as individual images, and they are full-illustration cards — art running edge to edge with the region’s scenery behind the Pokémon. The page calls them 「フルイラストのカード」 in the lead copy and lists them as プロモカード（キラ）, holo promos, in the contents.

Charmander is numbered 102/M-P with the PROMO marker, an 80 HP Basic Fire Pokémon with a single attack — ひのこ (Ember) for 30 damage, discarding one attached Energy — Water weakness ×2 and a retreat cost of two. Illustration credited to Saboteri. Behind it: a shop interior, and the 30th anniversary Pikachu mark sitting in the corner of every card in the run.

Sprigatito is 125/M-P, 70 HP, Grass, with このは (Leafage) for 40, and its art is unmistakably Paldea — Koraidon overhead, a sandwich on a plate, the Naranja Academy roofline. That regional backdrop is the design idea running through all 27: Bulbasaur (101/M-P, 80 HP) sits in front of Pallet Town houses and a red Kanto Pokédex, Turtwig (110/M-P, 90 HP) in front of Sinnoh’s Jubilife City, Rowlet (119/M-P, 70 HP) over an Alolan waterfront.

We opened five of the 27 images and each card’s printed number matched its position in the published order, which puts the run at 101/M-P through 127/M-P in the order the nine sets are listed. All five were illustrated by Saboteri. We have not opened the remaining 22, so treat the illustrator as a pattern across the ones we checked rather than a confirmed credit for all 27.

The ¥10,800 bundle is not a discount, and it isn’t your route

Pokémon Center Online sells all nine sets as one item at ¥10,800 including tax. That is nine times ¥1,200 to the yen. The bundle exists to save you nine transactions, not money — and the way it is sold makes it the wrong target for an overseas collector twice over.

The result date for that lottery is September 4 from 15:00 JST, payment closes September 8 at 16:59, and winning bundles ship by October 15, the day before release. Pokémon Center Online states plainly that nothing is delivered before the release date. The identity layer underneath it — Players Club verification built on Japan’s My Number Card — is the same wall we mapped in Pokémon Players Club My Number verification, and it is not a wall a service can climb for you.

Where these sit in the 30th CELEBRATION lineup

Four Japanese products carry the 30th CELEBRATION name and these card sets are the cheapest and the latest of them. Everything else lands a month earlier.

The expansion itself is the first Pokémon TCG set to launch worldwide on the same day, which is why the packs inside these boxes are not an access problem — you can buy that product at home. The ¥6,200 Premium Deck Set is the other Japanese-only-as-announced box, and it works completely differently: constructed decks, published card lists, no randomness. One thing worth knowing about the packs you’ll open: the 30th CELEBRATION expansion includes 30 historically significant cards reissued in special formatting, and the official page states those special-format versions cannot be used in the current Standard regulation — only in the formats where the original cards are legal. Pulling one is a nice moment, not a deck card.

Is there an international version?

No starter-trio card set appears in the announced international lineup. The 30th Celebration product showcase on Pokémon.com runs from September 16 to November 6, 2026 and lists the Elite Trainer Box and Pokémon Center Elite Trainer Box, Poster Collection, Tech Sticker Collection, 2-Pack Blister, Knock Out Collection, the Pokémon ex Box, then the Binder Collection, Booster Bundle and Mini Tins, the Espeon ex & Umbreon ex Battle Deck, and the Ditto Premium Collection, Ultra-Premium Collection and Figure Collection. Nothing in it is a nine-way starter promo set.

That is absence from an announced lineup, which is strong evidence and not the same thing as an exclusivity statement. The Pokémon Company has published no such statement that we could find, and could add SKUs later. What we can say as of August 9, 2026 is that no international release of these card sets has been announced.

The decision this product asks of you is unusually simple, which is rare for Japanese Pokémon releases. Nine boxes, no shared cards, one price, one date. Work out which starter you actually opened your first game with, buy that box, and let the other eight go to somebody who started in Alola.
